GENERAL INTRODUCTION OF BIHAR

Bihar is one of the twenty-eight states of India. It is the twelfth largest state by land and the third most populous state in India. It is situated in India’s eastern region. Bihαr shares borders with Uttar Pradesh to the westWest Bengal to the eastand Jharkhand to the south. It also shares international borders with Nepal to the north.

The River Ganges, which flows from west to east, divides Bihαr regions into two parts. Bihαr was the home state of the Mauryan ruler. Magadha and its capital Pataliputra became famous all over the world under the Great Asoka.

Bodh Gaya is a famous Buddhist centre of pilgrimage in Bihαr. Bodh Gaya contains the famous ancient temple near the Bodhi Tree where the Buddha attained enlightenment.

 Nalanda was one of the great sites of learning in ancient India.
